There are many different things to do when you want to escape the crazy city life of Buenos Aires for a day or a weekend. A few of the best options are; Colonia (Uruguay), El Tigre, Iguazu Falls, Mendoza, Dia de la Estancia and Mar de Plata. Keep on reading to find out why we think it is worth going there!
Colonia (day-trip)
Colonia (Uruguay) is a small city about one hour away from Buenos Aires (by boat). It has a lot of history and culture. You could for example have a look at the Old Town Walls in the city, visit Church Matriz or El Faro Lighthouse. Another option is to visit one of the local wineries in the area. The Harbor of Colonia has many opportunities for sports activities like sailing but is also nice for a walk or a bit of time to relax.
Tigre
Tigre is a great place to escape the crazy city life for a day or a weekend. The city is one hour away from Buenos Aires and has a lot of touristy things to offer. A great thing to do in Tigre is a boat trip on the delta to see how people live on small islands. If you go for a weekend, it is possible to rent a house on one of the islands and enjoy the quietness. Other options are to go and visit the waterpark and/or the market.
Iguazu Falls
Iguazu is located at the Argentinian, Paraguayan and Brazilian border and is known for their beautiful nature and waterfalls. It is a perfect trip for 3 or 4 days to enjoy the Argentinian side of the falls as well as the Brazilian side. But besides only the falls, there are other activities to do. For example, enjoy the jungle activities such as hiking, rappelling and zipline, go on a boat trip through the canals of Iguazu or visit an aboriginal tribe called ‘Guarani’.
Mendoza
If you like wine and amazing landscapes, Mendoza is the perfect escape. The area of Mendoza is known for their many vineyards and beautiful nature. Most of the vineyards are a bit further out of the city, so it is a great idea to either rent a car for a day or find a hotel in one of the more popular wine areas.
Dia de la Estancia
If you want to escape Buenos Aires for a weekend or just one day to have some space and rest, Dia de la Estancia might be the perfect thing for you! Enjoy the nature whilst riding a horse or relax and enjoy the sun at the pool with at night an asado and a tango show. The hosts normally also offer many other things to do such as a play tennis, enjoy the spa or have a massage.
Mar de Plata
Mar de Plata is one of the most famous beach areas of Argentina. From Buenos Aires it takes around 6 hours by car. It is the perfect getaway to enjoy the sun and the beach. Many Argentinians go to Mar de Plata for holiday too and therefor it is also the perfect place to practice your Spanish.
From people traveling alone to families together, there is enough choice for everyone. So do not hesitate any longer and go make your trip worth it!
