1.Grammar
Probably the most frustrating and technical part of the course is the review of gramma
r. You might be thinking ´how am I going to teach someone else my language if I don´t even know what a conditional is?´ Well, not to worry, you will re-learn everything that you learned in grade school! It is probably the case that you know and use the grammar correctly and therefore don’t need to know the names of the tenses and parts of speech. So in the course you will go over them so you can teach them to others.
2.Lesson planning
If you are overwhelmed by the thought of running an entire class by yourself, again, don’t worry, because lesson planning will be there to help break the class down into parts. You will learn the importance of a lesson plan and also how to make a really good and effective one.
3.Creative teaching method and ideas
I promise here we don’t teach the teachers to stand up at the front of the classroom and read off of a powerpoint for an hour like in your worst school nightmares. The method that we teaches here is embedded with loads of creativity and puts a huge emphasis on production from the student. There is a whole unit on activities and games that are really helpful to the student to be able to learn, understand, and then produce the material. For those of you who have really creative minds…your lucky, but for those who need a bit more motivation for a splurge of creativity, the course gives you loads of ideas and resources to help you get where you need to be.
And finally
4.How to teach….through practice!
During the last 2 weeks of the course you will be doing practicals so actually teachin
g Spanish speakers with a lesson plan that you created. This way the instructor can observe you what you did great and what you still need to work on so you can perfect your skills for when you are teaching on your own!
