Buenos Aires is a fantastic city with millions of people living in it and we have come to love this city with its beautiful people and unique features. Here is a list of the 10 things we love most about Buenos Aires.
1. The ice cream is heavenly delicious and we cannot get enough of it! On top of that, on basically every street corner you will find an ice cream shop, so we happily fill our little belly´s every day until we cannot eat no more.
2. The dog walkers in Buenos Aires are unique and one of a kind. Never in our lives have we seen so many dog-walkers in a city, walking with so many dogs. A common dog-walker in Buenos Aires walks at least with 7 dogs and it is not uncommon to see dog-walkers with 12 dogs. It is funny to see because at times it looks like the dogs are walking the dog-walker instead of in reverse.
3. The cobblestone streets are very authentic and they give the city a true romantic touch. Walking through those streets reminds us of being in Paris, the city of love.
4. Amazingly, jaw-dropping street art is one of the unique features of Buenos Aires. Besides that it is amazing to admire, it is legal to paint graffiti on walls and buildings.
5. The tango is Argentina´s official dance and you will see people dancing the tango wherever you go. Especially in the barrios of San Telmo and La Boca, which are also the oldest barrios of the city, you will see a lot of local people dancing the tango.
6. The parks in Buenos Aires are very beautiful but the most beautiful park in our opinion is Parque 3 de Febrero. This park is located in Palermo and it is popularly known as “Bosques de Palermo”. Lots of people come to visit the park to have a picknick, sunbathe and relax, or to work-out while running or skating.
7. The opening hours of the shops are truly satisfying in Buenos Aires, because shops open around 9 in the morning and will keep their doors open until 22.00 in the evening (this includes supermarkets!). This concept perfectly fits into the relaxed lifestyle of the porteños (meaning; people that were born and raised in Buenos Aires).
8. The Argentine cuisine is rich and diverse, with typical food such as meat and pizza and typical drinks such as mate and fernet. Buenos Aires has many good restaurants and it is a race against time to try as many restaurants as possible, in only 5 months.
9. The boliches (nightclubs) in Buenos Aires are fantastic and if you want to, you can go out any day of the week and stay out until 8 in the morning.
10. Last but certainly not least, listen to live tango music in a local café or a local bar. It was one of the most local things we have done and we would not want to have missed it for the world!
