A brief Christmas vacation
Another reason to study Spanish in Buenos Aires is the travel opportunities you gain from being here. Argentina is a huge country with a never-ending amount of things to do and see, and being in Buenos Aires makes it very easy to get to all of these places, as the transport links are very good and very cheap.
Over the Christmas period I took two weeks away from my studies to travel round Argentina. I travelled almost the entire length of the country, from the breath-taking waterfalls in Iguazu to the glaciers in Calafate. The Iguazu Falls are one of Argentina鈥檚 most popular tourist attractions and there is good reason for this. I went for two days; the first was spent on the Brazilian side where you get incredible panoramic views of the falls; and the second on the Argentinian side where boardwalks and paths make it possible to walk along the top of some of the biggest and most impressive sections. This day also included a boat trip where they take you right under some of the waterfalls; it was very fun and a great way of cooling down from the sweltering tropical heat!
Next we headed south, where we went to Puerto Madryn and Peninsula Valdes to sea the penguins, dolphins and seal lions, before going to the glaciers. These parts of Patagonia offer an amazing mixture of stunningly beautiful countryside, and wildlife not seen in many other parts of the world. We spent a couple of days on boat and car trips visiting colonies of sea lions, penguins and dolphins. For anyone who likes these animals, there is no better place to come to see them, especially as if you come at the right time, whales and killer whales can be seen around Peninsula Valdes.
And finally we spent the last few days of our travels in Los Glaciares National Park near El Calafate hiking across glaciers and taking boat trips through icebergs across Lago Argentino to get even better views of the size and magnitude of these glaciers.
In conclusion, due to its size Argentina has so much to offer. On our whirlwind tour of the country we did not even scratch the surface on what is on offer here however it just gives another reason to come back to Argentina to further my Spanish learning as well as seeing and doing things that can鈥檛 be seen and done in any other parts of the world!
