Christmas in Buenos Aires

Christmas in Buenos Aires is a little bit different than most Europeans, and Northern Americans are used too. Whereas in most of their home countries it is very cold and, for the lucky (or unlucky) ones there is snow, Christmas in Buenos Aires is celebrated with temperatures well over 25 degrees Celsius. Here a story how some of our students celebrated their Christmas;

Poolside instead of the fireplace

As said, celebrating Christmas in Buenos Aires does require a different scenery than they are used to. In their European home country it is a tradition to celebrate Christmas with their family warm and cozy near the fire place to have a nice dinner and maybe unwrap some presents. In Buenos Aires on the other hand they choose a different approach. Since one of them lived in a house with roof terrace, they bought an inflatable pool and filled it with water.

Argentina jersey instead of Christmas sweater

And of course celebrating Christmas in Buenos Aires is not done in a Christmas sweater. So in the spirit of Christmas, the students bought presents for each other and instead of wearing a Christmas sweater, the night was spent in an Argentina jersey. This was obviously a lot more comfortable and it is of course a beautiful shirt!

Elebaires family instead of own family

And yes, Christmas is a time to come together with your family but celebrating Christmas in Buenos Aires while your own family is more than 10.000 kilometers away can be hard. Not for the students at Elebaires! Because while staying in Buenos Aires all our students are part of the Elebaires family! These students felt the same and celebrated Christmas together. Later on the night they went out to a huge party where they met up with more Elebaires students. For them this was definitely a Christmas to never forget!
