¡Feliz Cumpleaños Jorge Luis Borges!

Today in Argentina, and all over Latin America, we are celebrating the 112th anniversary of the birth of Jorge Luis Borges. Borges is Argentina’s most famous writer and perhaps the most important figure in Spanish Language writing for centuries.

If you haven’t read Borges then you are missing out on one of the most unique literary experiences on offer. Borges was a powerhouse of twentieth century literature and spent most of his life in Argentina as a writer, translator and university lecturer. The Argentine is widely regarded as being the driving force behind the development of the concept of “magical realism” and his contribution to science fiction writing is held in high esteem.

Some of Borges most popular titles (apart from his numerous poems, reviews, translations and screenplays) include Ficciones (1944) and The Aleph (1949). It is certainly worth taking a look at any of Borges work as they cover a wide variety of themes and concepts and are a must read for anyone planning to spend time here in Buenos Aires. So why not say “feliz cumpleaños Borges” today and read one of his books?
