How easy is it to find a job teaching English in Buenos Aires?

Everyone’s experience with the job search following TEFL program here in Buenos Aires is different—with myriad job opportunities for native English speaking English teachers there is a wide range of possibilities when building your own work schedule! We reached out to a couple students who completed the course in the past year and their experience finding jobs/creating their schedules to give an idea of the flexibility you’ll have here in Buenos Aires to do what you feel most comfortable with in teaching English!

Jenna, 25, USA

Jenna began searching for job opportunities during the first week of the TEFL course, she came to Buenos Aires with a year of ESL teaching under her belt from her time in Thailand and was eager to begin searching for opportunities in Buenos Aires. The main platform that Jenna used to search for her jobs was Craigslist—many companies post ads looking for teachers in English so it’s easy to find and contact organizations that sound like a good fit for you. Currently, Jenna is employed with an online teaching company (Whales English) which she teaches through in the weekday mornings as well as a local institute, Further, who often hires teachers upon completion of our TEFL program. Jenna reports that she felt it was easy for her to find teaching jobs in English here and already began working at her new job during the final week of the TEFL course.

Shelby, 28, Canada

Upon completing the TEFL course, Shelby opted to take a couple weeks of Spanish group intensive Courses through our school before diving into the work force so she reports she didn’t begin officially job searching until a week after finishing the certification course. Shelby applied to the institutions provided by our school in the job workshop that all TEFL students participate in towards the end of their course and is now employed by: Bromley, American Forum, and Mini bilinguals—working a couple classes a week for each company. Shelby reported that she felt it was easy for her to find a job in Buenos Aires once she started looking, even without knowing much Spanish, and she was able to start working as soon as she finished the two weeks of the Spanish courses.

Kallista, 23, USA

Kallista stated she began searching for jobs in week 4 of the TEFL course on Craigslist and Tusclase. Kallista was able to obtain several private students through Tusclases and one two days of the week she goes out to Vicente Lopez where she gives classes to professionals at Motorola. In her free time, she teaches online with a company called Cambly, which is a very flexible online teaching platform that allows you to sign on and teach whenever you have free time—without requiring the structured schedule. Kallista reported feeling that the job search was very easy and she was able to begin work immediately upon finishing the TEFL course!

Grace, 22, USA

Grace began searching for jobs on Craigslist during the final week of the TEFL program. With our program, we add every ESL teacher from the course to a giant TEFL Whatsapp group where teachers can send messages requesting teachers for their students when they are moving away, teachers for students who ask them for classes but don’t line up with the teacher’s schedule and any other job opportunities they come across. Grace acquired a few students from a previous teacher who was returning to Canada around the time that Grace’s program ended. Grace also obtained a job with a business that matches their employees up with students and/or businesses who request teachers. Grace reports that she felt it was VERY easy to obtain a job and began working the week immediately following the completion of the course. Grace stated she could’ve started sooner but didn’t want to start working until she was finished with all of the coursework.

As you can see from the different testimonies from the TEFL graduates above, our students have myriad opportunities no matter what point in the course they begin searching for jobs. It can be scary to move to a new country without a job and maybe even without knowing anyone beforehand! However, finding a job after you finish the TEFL course is much easier than you could ever imagine. Soon you’ll find yourself having to turn down job offers!
