What to do when traveling to Salta and Mendoza
The Northern part of Argentina is home to amazing vineyards and beautiful natural phenomenon. This blog about what to do when traveling to Salta and Mendoza is written to share experiences. To make sure that every enthusiast gets the chance to explore the provinces of Mendoza, Salta and Jujuy, we highlighted our best advise.
What to do when traveling to Mendoza?
When traveling to Mendoza, a direct flight departing from Buenos Aires is the most comfortable way. If you would like to travel more budget-wise, you could also take a bus. However, this costs more time. Once arrived in Mendoza, take time to visit Plaza España and Plaza Independencia.

In the area of Mendoza city, there are three wine-regions. Two of them, Maipu and Lujan de Cuyo are easily reached by bus. In these two regions, we advise to rent a bike and visit all vineyards while enjoying the sun. The third region, Valle de Uco, is a bit further and therefore it is more logic to travel to it by taxi or private driver. Since Valle de Uco is home to more famous vineyards, it is highly recommended to book the tours and tastings upfront.
In all three regions, there are many vineyards to choose. We recommend to make a selection that combines the amazing views with vineyards that explain more about the process of making the wine.
What to do when traveling to Salta?

To get to Salta, you could either take a plane or bus trip from Mendoza or book a direct flight or bus trip from Buenos Aires. The city of Salta is exactly what you would expect: lemon trees on the square, beautiful Architecture and good food. To see the province of Salta and Jujuy, there are two options: a bus that shows you the area for a good price and offers you the chance to meet new people who travel with the same bus. The other option is to book a car at the airport and discover on your own pace.
When you travel by car, take the ‘Ruta Nacional 9’ through the with forest covered mountains. After passing route nine, we advise to travel to Purmamarca. In Purmamarca, you can see an amazing market with local products and the seven-coloured

mountain. After Purmamarca, you travel to Humahuaca to see the fourteen-coloured mountain. To sleep, we recommend booking a hostel, hotel or Airbnb in one of the two cities or in Tilcara which is located between the two of them. The day you return to Salta, you visit the Salinas Grandes salt lakes that are on the route.
Learning while traveling
In the province of Jujuy, not many people speak English. Therefore, learning Spanish could highly improve the experience of traveling in Argentina. If you would like to learn Spanish and travel to these amazing locations at the same time, take classes in Buenos Aires at Elebaires and continue your progress at our partner in Mendoza. Ask our staff for the possibilities.
